Annie Menebroker Poetry Award

THE WINNER OF THE ANNIE MENEBROKER POETRY AWARD IS BRANDON DIEHL for his poem “Brother”

Statement from Sue McElligott:

For two years now, I’ve had the pleasure of judging this poetry contest in my mother’s name and honor. The poetry that I have been fortunate enough to read has made it difficult each time to choose a winner. Annie Menebroker was such a lover of poetry and the arts in general; she honestly could never get enough. When she wasn’t at a poetry reading, she was attending a local music event, or at the movie theatre, or at home, reading many of her thousands of books she had to have read in her lifetime.

I would like to personally thank Rebecca Schumejda, and TPQ, for the idea of starting this poetry contest in my mother’s honor. I would also like to thank Mikey and Eva West for donating the prize money each year. Although my mother was very hesitant towards any personal attention, I know that somewhere she is grateful for the love, admiration and respect her fellow artists have showered upon her name. My family and I are very touched and proud of the mark she has left in this crazy and wild world we live in.
