Paul Koniecki

Temporary word

I’ve always wanted to slide
A poem across

A New York City
Teller’s pass-through

At the bank
Like a ransom note

By Sal from Dog Day
Afternoon John Cazale is

A desperate indigo lake
Filled with scribbles of falling ink

Showing us how birth
Is a defenestration of sorts

Pairs of Innocents
Thrown from Paradise

Out a low-rise high with windows
A bank with many floors

A chance to read out loud
Your own eulogy

Rewrite yourself a new
Introduction to this life

Tenuous and brief
Squawk of captain’s megaphones

And Attica Attica
Ringing in the air
