Bill Gainer

A Simple Note

Her picture
pulls the old man’s
lets him stare
without notice
think about things
she might know

His glance
makes sure
he’s alone.
His thoughts

He writes
a simple note
I only wish
was kinder.

Drops it
in the mail
no address
to or from
no stamp.
