Truck Stop

The truck stop was littered with sloppy meatloaf faces.

Lot lizards and dish hogs and a communal copy of Penthouse
in the Men’s crapper.

The toilets clogged like never coming up for air.

The mirrors all smashed out for their
jagged forgetfulness.

And there was an old shoeshine machine in the corner
which you could feed quarters into,
but it didn’t work.

The out of order sign just weathered faces
that had forgotten how to smile.
