it’s been two years
since life formed a hole
so large she
almost fell in.
she clawed her way back
up
the slippery stone surface, caked
with green slime and a
finality that rang
so loud, she swore
she felt the earth move.
the phrase, “bottomless pit”
made so much sense
and felt so familiar now,
she wanted to write a book
and use it as the title.
Sue McElligott has been writing poetry since she was a very young girl. Growing up with a poet in the house, she learned quickly that she wanted to share her words just like her mother did. She was published for the first time at the age of 8 years, with the same poem re-published with her permission in a 2nd anthology. Today, Sue uses both poetry and painting to journal her thoughts and emotions.
